The state of Tripura has seen a significant decrease in illegal infiltration along its international border with Bangladesh since June 2025. According to a statement issued by the Superintendent of Police (Police Control), this decline can be attributed to intensified surveillance efforts and successful operations targeting border brokers and their accomplices.
Tripura shares an 856 km-long international border with Bangladesh, making it a vulnerable area for illegal activities. Over the past three years, security forces have taken action by arresting 366 border brokers and their associates under relevant legal provisions. Additionally, cases have been filed against individuals involved in producing fake documents and facilitating the transportation of illegal immigrants.
The combined efforts of the Police and the Border Security Force (BSF) have been crucial in dismantling the network of infiltrators. The BSF continues to maintain strict vigilance along the international border, while Tripura State Rifles (TSR) personnel have been briefed on the issue to enhance coordination.
In order to strengthen monitoring beyond border areas, plainclothes security personnel have been deployed at Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport in Agartala, major railway stations, and key bus terminals. The Special Branch has also been instructed to promptly share intelligence related to infiltration. Acting on such information, authorities have apprehended several Bangladeshi and Rohingya infiltrators in recent months, as well as Indian brokers allegedly aiding illegal crossings.
Officials stress the importance of continued cooperation between state police, BSF, and intelligence units to sustain the progress made in curbing infiltration. By working together and remaining vigilant, Tripura hopes to further reduce illegal activities along its international border.
