Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha announced on Friday that the state has witnessed a significant decrease in crime rates since 2023. Speaking at the Independence Day function held at the Assam Rifles Ground in Agartala, Saha proudly stated that Tripura saw a 19.4 percent reduction in crimes in 2024 compared to the previous year, and a further 12.35 percent decrease during the first five months of 2025.
According to Saha, Tripura recorded 110 cases per 1 lakh population, significantly lower than the national average of 422. The Chief Minister credited the state’s law enforcement agencies for their success in combating illegal drugs, noting a 106 percent increase in drug seizures and a 132 percent rise in drug destruction in 2024.
Highlighting the state police’s role as the “second line of defence” at the international border with Bangladesh, Saha mentioned efforts to crack down on illegal immigrants and their facilitators. He also emphasized the government’s initiatives to boost tourism, including renovation works at key tourist sites with funding from the Asian Development Bank.
In addressing unemployment, Saha revealed that over 19,000 regular posts in government departments have been filled since 2018, with 23 job fairs organized in the past year. The Chief Minister also highlighted welfare schemes aimed at uplifting the socio-economic condition of tribal communities, including a World Bank-funded project worth ₹1,400 crore for their overall development.
Overall, Saha’s address at the Independence Day function showcased Tripura’s progress in various sectors and the government’s commitment to enhancing the state’s security, economy, and social welfare.
