Tripura’s Twipra Student’s Federation (TSF), a constituent of the North East Students’ Organisation (NESO), took a bold stand against illegal immigrants on August 18 by organizing a sit-in demonstration near the Circuit House in Agartala city. The TSF demanded strict implementation of the Ministry of Home Affairs directives to detect and deport migrants who have entered the state unlawfully.
John Debbarma, the Vice President of TSF, spoke out about the ongoing issue of illegal immigration in Tripura and other North Eastern states. He emphasized that the problem has persisted for over 40 years and action needs to be taken to address it. TSF, in line with NESO’s stance, is actively protesting against illegal immigrants and seeking the cooperation of the state government in detecting and deporting them.
“We are not new to the issue of illegal immigrants in Tripura and the North East. It’s a long-standing problem that needs immediate attention. We are urging the state government to adhere to the directives of the Ministry of Home Affairs and work in coordination with other states to tackle this issue effectively,” said John.
He also raised concerns about the ongoing eviction process in Assam, warning that those who are evicted may attempt to relocate to other states, including Tripura. In light of this, TSF is calling for proactive measures to prevent illegal immigrants from entering Tripura and to ensure the state’s border security.
The sit-in demonstration by TSF serves as a powerful reminder of the pressing need to address the issue of illegal immigration in Tripura and the wider North East region. The federation’s efforts to raise awareness and demand action from the government are commendable, and their call for strict enforcement of laws and coordination with other states is crucial in safeguarding the state’s security and integrity.
