Tripura has emerged as a shining example of success in reducing school dropout rates, surpassing the national average in key indicators across primary, upper primary, and secondary levels. Recent data released by the Department of School Education has revealed the state’s remarkable progress in this area.
In the primary level, Tripura saw its dropout rate decrease from 1.4% in 2022-23 to a mere 0.5% in 2023-24, while the national average remained at 1.9% during the same period. At the upper primary level, dropout rates fell from 5.9% to 4.1% in the same timeframe, placing the state below the national average of 5.2%. The most significant improvement was seen at the secondary level, with dropout rates plummeting from 17.9% to 10.4%, compared to the national average of 14.1%.
A Tripura government official attributed this success to targeted interventions such as student tracking, community engagement, enhancements to the mid-day meal program, and improvements in school infrastructure. He emphasized the state’s commitment to providing inclusive and quality education, ensuring that every child has equitable access to learning opportunities.
The official also praised Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, who serves as the state’s education minister, for his tireless efforts in advancing the education sector. He expressed optimism about continuing the momentum to prevent any child from being left behind in their educational journey.
Overall, Tripura’s achievements in reducing school dropout rates serve as a testament to the state’s dedication to improving education outcomes and fostering a conducive learning environment for its students.
