AGARTALA: Aiming to consolidate its organizational presence and address pressing political issues in the state, the Tripura Pradesh Trinamool Congress (TMC) held a pivotal press conference today at the party’s state headquarters in Agartala. The briefing, attended by senior state leaders and key coordinators, focused on the party’s roadmap for the 2026 political calendar and recent developments concerning administrative neutrality.
Focus on ‘SIR’ Discrepancies and Voter Rights
A major part of the press conference was dedicated to the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls. The TMC leadership echoed concerns recently raised by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee regarding the deletion of names from voter lists.
“We are witnessing a trend where the names of genuine citizens, particularly those from marginalized backgrounds, are being scrutinized under the guise of revision. Our workers will go door-to-door to ensure that no legitimate voter in Tripura is disenfranchised. We demand full transparency from the Election Commission and the state administration,” the TMC spokesperson stated.
Condemning Political Intimidation
The leadership also addressed the recent reports of vandalism and intimidation at various party offices across the state. They alleged that the ruling party is attempting to stifle the growing influence of the “Maa, Mati, Manush” ideology in Tripura.
- Safety of Karyakartas: The TMC demanded immediate police action against those involved in recent clashes and called for a “fear-free” environment for all political activities.
- Youth Engagement: The party announced a fresh membership drive starting this month, targeting the youth who are “disillusioned with the lack of jobs and the rising drug menace” in the state.
Solidarity with Regional Struggles
Reflecting on the recent visit of a high-level TMC delegation to Agartala—including MPs Sushmita Dev and Saayoni Ghosh—the local leadership reiterated that the party is here to stay. They emphasized that the struggles of the people in Tripura for better healthcare, education, and employment are being closely monitored by the party’s high command in Kolkata.
Demands Placed Before the Government:
- Unbiased Administration: Stop the “political coloring” of government machinery at the block and panchayat levels.
- Transparent Recruitment: Release the specific calendar for pending state government job examinations.
- Protection of Democratic Space: Allow opposition parties to conduct rallies and meetings without administrative hurdles or threat of violence.
The press conference concluded with a call to the people of Tripura to maintain communal harmony and social peace. The TMC leaders reaffirmed that their agitation against “unconstitutional measures” would continue from the streets to the legal corridors, ensuring that the voice of the common man is not silenced.
