Union Minister of Fisheries, Rajiv Ranjan Singh, is set to lay the foundation stone for the Integrated Aqua Park at Satero Miyan Haur (lake) in the Kailashahar subdivision of Unakoti district within the next few days, according to State Fishery Minister Sudhangshu Das.
Minister Das chaired a meeting with department officials on Monday, with Kailasahar MLA Tinku Roy and Unakoti District Magistrate D.K. Chakma in attendance at BC Nagar Gram Panchayat.
The Tripura government has committed to investing INR 100 crore in establishing the integrated aqua park in the Unakoti district. The goal is to bridge the existing annual gap of approximately 32 metric tonnes between fish demand and supply in the state. The central government has already sanctioned the project and disbursed an initial installment of INR 43 crore.
Minister Sudhangshu Das emphasized that the integrated aqua park aims to make the Unakoti district self-sufficient in fish production and generate substantial employment opportunities1. The aqua park is projected to produce 2.5 metric tonnes of fish annually, which will reduce the state’s reliance on fish imports from West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, and Bangladesh.
Tinku Roy, MLA of Kailashahar subdivision and State Sports and Youth Affairs Minister, inspected the proposed aquapark site on Monday. Roy stated that this government initiative would unlock new opportunities for economic prosperity and employment generation.
The aqua park project, located in the Satero Miyan Haur area, plans to utilize over 60 acres acquired by the Fisheries Department. The sprawling wetland will transform into a modern, high-tech aqua park designed for tourism, livelihood enhancement, and fisheries research.
The park will also feature ornamental fish rearing units and finfish hatcheries. These initiatives aim to promote ornamental fish farming, harness indigenous fish resources, and generate local employment opportunities.
The Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Rajiv Ranjan Singh, also laid the foundation stone for 50 fisheries development projects worth INR 50 crore in the Northeastern Region.
