The Tourism Minister of Tripura, Sushanta Chowdhury, emphasized the importance of tourism in creating job opportunities and boosting the state’s economy during a recent discussion in the state assembly. The discussion was prompted by a resolution put forth by MLA Dipak Majumder, which called on the state government to focus on developing infrastructure at heritage and natural tourist sites.
The resolution, which was unanimously passed by the House, highlighted the need for special projects to enhance tourism infrastructure in Tripura. Minister Chowdhury specifically mentioned the Unakoti tourist site, where Rs 72 crore is being invested in tourism infrastructure at Sonamukhi. Additionally, modernization efforts have been undertaken at Narikelkunja, with the construction of log huts for visitors.
In South District, at Chottakhola’s Maitri Udyan, new facilities such as rest houses, eateries, and public toilets have been constructed, addressing the lack of amenities previously available to tourists. Minister Chowdhury also mentioned the modernization of various tourist lodges across Tripura, aimed at attracting more tourists to the state.
The Tourism Department is also implementing tourism-support schemes to empower the youth and promote self-reliance. Minister Chowdhury emphasized that with improved infrastructure, Tripura has the potential to attract more tourists from outside the state, thus strengthening its economic foundation. The focus on tourism development in Tripura is expected to have a positive impact on employment opportunities and economic growth in the state.
