Agartala: Shortly after Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman concluded her historic ninth budget presentation, Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha issued a detailed reaction, welcoming the Union Budget 2026-27 as a “visionary blueprint” for the nation’s journey toward becoming a developed country by 2047. Speaking to the media and through his official social media handles, the Chief Minister congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Finance Minister for a budget that he believes balances long-term growth with immediate social welfare.
The Three Pillars of Development
Dr. Saha emphasized that the budget stands firmly on three major pillars: Last-Mile Delivery, Inclusive Progress, and Infrastructure Development. He noted that the document is not just a financial statement but a 25-year roadmap for sustainable national transformation.
“This is a welfare-centric and forward-looking budget. It ignites the aspirations of our youth, women, and farmers in every village and town,” the Chief Minister stated. He particularly lauded the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and cutting-edge technology into governance and healthcare.
Major Wins for Tripura and the Northeast
The Chief Minister highlighted several key announcements that will directly impact Tripura’s economy and connectivity:
- The Buddhist Circuit: Dr. Saha hailed the introduction of a new Buddhist Circuit for the Northeast, which includes Tripura. He noted that this will provide a significant boost to the state’s tourism industry, attracting international pilgrims and travelers.
- Green Transport: The announcement of e-bus services for the Northeast was welcomed as a major step toward modernizing Agartala’s public transport while maintaining ecological balance.
- MSME & Income Boost: He pointed out that the budget is designed to pave the way for an income boost for every household, with specific provisions for the MSME sector which is the backbone of Tripura’s small-scale industries.
- Infrastructure Connectivity: The proposed Varanasi-Siliguri high-speed rail corridor was cited as a game-changer for regional logistics, bringing the Northeast closer to the rest of India.
Focus on ‘Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas’
Reflecting on the social aspects, Dr. Saha praised the allocations for modern sports infrastructure and sacred pilgrimage destinations, reinforcing the foundation of a self-reliant India. He mentioned that the budget ensures the benefits of growth reach the “poorest of the poor,” aligning perfectly with the philosophy of Antyodaya.
“At the face of it, the budgetary allocations for health, education, and agriculture are highly satisfactory,” Dr. Saha added, promising that the state government would work in tandem with the Centre to ensure every rupee of the budget translates into real-world progress for the people of Tripura.
