Agartala | February 26, 2026
In a major escalation of their ongoing movement, the Twipra Students’ Federation (TSF) organized a massive protest in Agartala today at 5:00 p.m. The demonstration saw student activists burning a poster of the Chief Minister to register their deep-seated grievances and dissatisfaction with current administrative decisions.
Following the street protest, the leadership of the federation held a crucial press conference at the Agartala Press Club to clarify their stance and outline their future course of action.
Key Highlights of the Protest
- Public Demonstration: Large numbers of TSF members gathered in the heart of the city, raising slogans against the government before setting fire to a poster of the Chief Minister.
- Ultimatum to the Government: During the protest, leaders emphasized that their demands—ranging from indigenous rights to educational reforms—have remained unaddressed for too long.
- Press Briefing: At the Agartala Press Club, John Debbarma, Vice President of TSF, addressed the media. He was joined by Hamalu Jamatia, General Secretary, who issued a stern warning regarding the intensification of their movement.
Core Demands of TSF
While the specific trigger for today’s spontaneous protest was the immediate socio-political climate, the federation highlighted several long-standing issues:
- Roman Script for Kokborok: A primary demand involving the official recognition and implementation of the Roman script for the Kokborok language in examinations.
- Job Reservation: Strict adherence to and protection of the 100-point roster in government recruitment.
- Educational Infrastructure: Improved facilities in schools and colleges located within the TTAADC (Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council) areas.
