Two Youths Arrested for Attacking Government Team Conducting Drone Survey in Unakoti District
Two youths have been arrested for allegedly attacking a government team that was conducting a drone survey on an agar plantation in the Unakoti district, police confirmed on Sunday.
The team, comprised of members from the Science and Technology department of the state government and the Forest department, was assigned to conduct a drone survey on the agar plantation in the Srinathpur area under the Irani police station.
According to Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Jayanta Karmakar, on August 22, two members of the survey team were conducting the drone survey when two youths, identified as Abdul Sakur and Abdul Halim, appeared and demanded that the survey be stopped. The youths claimed that the drone was capturing images of women bathing, leading to a confrontation with the survey team.
The survey team filed a complaint stating that the two youths damaged the drone, as well as a table and control unit.
Following the complaint, the police arrested both youths and presented them before a local court on August 23. They are currently in judicial remand.
Abdul Aziz, the father of the arrested youths, expressed his intention to file a complaint against two employees of the survey team for the invasion of privacy of women.
“My sons intervened to stop the drone survey as it was violating the privacy of our women who were bathing. It was a matter of women’s modesty. While my sons deny damaging the drone, there was a physical altercation with the survey team over the issue. I will also file a complaint against the survey team for their inappropriate behavior towards the women,” he stated.
