AGARTALA: Hailing the Union Budget 2026-27 as a transformative document for the marginalized sections of society, Tripura’s Minister for Tribal Welfare, Shri Bikash Debbarma, held a high-level press conference at the BJP State Headquarters (Pradesh Karyalaya) in Agartala today. The Minister detailed the specific provisions in the budget that aim to accelerate the socio-economic development of Tripura’s tribal and rural populations.
Focus on Inclusive Growth: “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas”
During the press meet, Minister Bikash Debbarma expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for prioritizing the North-Eastern region. He noted that the 2026 budget is not merely an economic statement but a “comprehensive framework” for the upliftment of the underprivileged.
“This budget is a victory for the tribal communities of Tripura. With a significant hike in allocations for the Department of Tribal Welfare, we are looking at a new era of infrastructure, better healthcare in remote areas, and enhanced social security for our people. It perfectly aligns with our vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’ and ensures no one is left behind,” Minister Bikash Debbarma told the media.
Key Highlights for Tripura’s Tribal Sector:
- Education & Infrastructure: The Minister highlighted increased funding for Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS), which will provide quality education to tribal students in Tripura’s hilly terrains.
- Healthcare Expansion: The budget’s focus on the “caregiver ecosystem” and rural health units will directly benefit the Janajati population, ensuring medical facilities reach the farthest corners of the state.
- Economic Empowerment: Minister Debbarma emphasized that the budget provides a strong push for self-help groups and local handloom sectors, which are the backbone of the tribal economy.
- Employment Opportunities: He noted that the expansion of physical and digital infrastructure in the state will create new job avenues for the local youth.
Countering Opposition Narratives
Responding to criticisms from the opposition parties, the Minister stated that the “directionless” label given by the Congress and CPIM is a reflection of their own “lack of vision.” He asserted that while the opposition focuses on political rhetoric, the BJP government is focusing on “Last-Mile Delivery” and ensuring that welfare schemes reach every household.
Role of the BJP Pradesh Karyalaya
The press conference at the state office was part of the BJP’s nationwide outreach program to simplify and communicate the core objectives of the budget to the common people. The Minister was accompanied by several senior party leaders and state coordinators.
The session concluded with the Minister calling upon party workers to take the message of the budget’s benefits to every booth and hamlet in Tripura, ensuring that the citizens are fully aware of the central government’s pro-people initiatives.
