News Report:
The Tripura Pradesh Unorganised Workers’ Congress organised a protest march today from the Pradesh Congress Bhavan to the Labour Department, demanding the immediate withdrawal of the so-called ‘Black Labour Code’ along with the fulfilment of a nine-point charter of demands.
Participants raised slogans calling for the protection of workers’ rights, fair wages, improved social security benefits, and stronger safeguards for unorganised sector employees. Leaders of the organisation stated that the new labour code undermines job security, reduces legal protections, and poses serious risks to millions of workers earning their livelihood through daily labour.
Upon reaching the Labour Department office, representatives submitted a deputation outlining their key demands, including implementation of welfare schemes, strict monitoring of workplace safety, and prevention of exploitation by employers.
Officials of the Labour Department received the memorandum and assured that the demands would be reviewed as per procedure.
The Unorganised Workers’ Congress vowed to continue democratic movements if the government fails to address the issues highlighted in their nine-point demand list.
