US Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed his concerns over the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan following India’s missile strikes on terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir in the early hours of Wednesday. The operation, dubbed ‘Operation Sindoor’, specifically targeted the Jaish-e-Mohammed stronghold in Bahawalpur.
Rubio stated that he is closely monitoring the situation and hopes for a quick resolution to the conflict. He commended India for its measured and responsible actions, emphasizing that the strikes were focused on known terror camps and were designed to be non-escalatory in nature. The Embassy of India in Washington DC released a statement highlighting that no Pakistani civilian, economic, or military targets were hit during the operation.
In a conversation with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval shortly after the strikes, Rubio was briefed on the actions taken by India. The statement also mentioned a recent brutal attack by terrorists in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, where 26 civilians lost their lives on April 22.
The international community is closely watching the developments between India and Pakistan, with many hoping for a peaceful resolution to the conflict. Rubio’s comments reflect the importance of de-escalating tensions and preventing further violence in the region.
