Villagers in the Gandatwisa block the main road to Ambassa, protesting six months of unpaid NREGA wages and ration distribution problems. They allege administrative inaction and severe hardship.
Villagers from a local ADC village blocked the Gandatwisa-Ambassa main road during the weekly market hours in Gandatwisa subdivision today. The protest stemmed from their anger over not receiving wages for 20 days of work under the NREGA scheme for the past six months. They claim that repeated appeals to the administration have yielded no results.
The villagers stated that the subdivision administration had assured them that the outstanding wages would be paid before the Buisu festival. However, the payments never arrived, causing significant hardship for many families during the festive period. The villagers further alleged that two residents of the village died due to a lack of medical treatment, a situation possibly worsened by their financial distress.
The situation is compounded by problems with the ration distribution system. Many families reportedly went hungry during the Buisu festival because they did not receive their allocated rice. Villagers allege that ration distribution has been disrupted under the pretext of Aadhaar card fingerprint mismatches.
Faced with these issues, the villagers expressed their outrage and chose to stage a peaceful protest to draw the administration’s attention. They are demanding the immediate release of their NREGA wages and the restoration of regular ration supplies.
