News Report:
Agartala, Tripura: The Indian Mazdoor Sangh–affiliated West Tripura Auto Rickshaw Mazdoor Sangh organised a mass dharna at Paradise Chowmuhani in Agartala, protesting against the alleged illegal sale of auto-rickshaws by the Bajaj Auto company.
According to the agitating auto-rickshaw workers, Bajaj Auto has allegedly sold more than 500 auto-rickshaws without valid permits in the state. They claimed that such large-scale sales without proper authorisation have severely affected their livelihood and worsened traffic congestion in Agartala city, where traffic jams have already become a daily problem.
The protesters pointed out that on December 24, auto owners had lodged a formal complaint at the East Police Station, accusing the company of irregularities and fraud in the sale of auto-rickshaws. The complaint alleged that selling hundreds of autos without permits raises serious questions about regulatory oversight and enforcement by the concerned authorities.
Addressing the gathering, union leaders questioned how such a large number of auto-rickshaws could be sold without permits in a congested city like Agartala. They demanded a thorough investigation into the matter and strict action against those responsible for the alleged violations.
The dharna witnessed participation from a large number of auto-rickshaw drivers and workers, who raised slogans demanding justice, transparency, and protection of their livelihood. The protest concluded peacefully under police supervision.
