West Tripura MP and former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb met with Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi on Wednesday to discuss the progress of key infrastructure projects in Tripura and to strategize for upcoming initiatives. The meeting was crucial as both leaders addressed the challenges posed by heavy rainfall in the state, which often affects the quality and durability of roads.
During the meeting, Deb and Gadkari emphasized the importance of long-term solutions, particularly the construction of reinforced cement concrete (RCC) roads to enhance the resilience and longevity of the region’s infrastructure. Deb also raised concerns about the quality of certain ongoing construction works and proposed the formation of a high-level inspection team to assess these projects thoroughly and recommend necessary corrective measures.
One of the main demands discussed during the meeting was the need for a proper drainage system along National Highway 8 near Santirbazar, an area prone to flooding. The Union Ministry approved this proposal and included it in the Annual Plan, with the aim of reducing waterlogging issues and improving road safety and durability.
Progress on major infrastructure projects, such as the construction of RCC bridges over the Gomati and Muhuri rivers, was also reviewed. Deb and Gadkari agreed on the importance of expediting the Agartala-Sabroom approach road, setting a target completion date of November 2025.
Furthermore, the meeting included an evaluation of 11 ongoing infrastructure projects in Tripura, with a focus on maintaining high construction standards and ensuring timely execution of all works. Deb expressed confidence that with continued support from the Union Government, Tripura will see significant advancements in its road and transport infrastructure in the near future.
Overall, the meeting between Biplab Kumar Deb and Nitin Gadkari was productive and highlighted the commitment of both leaders to improving the infrastructure in Tripura for the benefit of its residents.
