Agartala, November 24 —
The political atmosphere in Tripura has heated up after the arrest of Bidhan Bhowmik, cousin of former Union Minister Pratima Bhowmik. Reacting to the development, Pradesh Congress President Asish Kumar Saha made a sharp statement questioning the ruling party’s silence and the broader implications of the arrest.
Speaking to the media, Saha said the arrest once again exposes the “double standards” of the ruling establishment. He alleged that the BJP claims to stand for clean governance, yet key individuals connected to their leadership are frequently embroiled in controversies.
Saha stated,
“When someone closely connected to a former Union Minister is arrested, the government cannot wash its hands off. The people of Tripura deserve transparency. Why is the BJP silent?”
He also demanded that the state government clarify the nature of the charges and ensure a fair and impartial investigation, without political interference or protection.
Congress leaders argue that this arrest indicates deeper administrative and ethical failures, and they urged authorities to make the case details public. Saha reiterated that the Congress will continue to raise its voice against what he described as “misrule and unchecked corruption.”
Political observers note that the incident is likely to trigger further exchanges between the ruling and opposition parties as the state heads toward a more charged political climate.
