The Howrah River in Tripura’s West District has caused widespread flooding, leading to approximately 1,300 families seeking refuge in relief camps. Chief Minister Manik Saha took to social media to address the situation, stating that continuous rainfall has resulted in flooding in various parts of the district.
The Central Water Commission reported that the Howrah River is currently flowing at 11.58 meters, which is 0.88 meters above the danger level. As a result, areas such as Baldakhal, Sri Lanka Basti, and Chandrapur Inter-State Bus Terminus in Agartala have been severely affected by the rising water levels.
In response to the crisis, the government has mobilized teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Tripura Police, and Tripura State Rifles to assist in the evacuation of residents from flood-affected areas. Water pumps have been put into operation to alleviate the flooding in Agartala.
Chief Minister Saha urged residents in affected areas to heed government advisories and move to safe locations. The government is closely monitoring the situation and is working to provide necessary assistance to those impacted by the floods.
