In a major crackdown on cross-border smuggling, Assam Rifles has successfully intercepted a large consignment of smuggled foreign cigarettes worth Rs.1.95 crores in Tripura’s Khowai District. Acting on credible intelligence, Assam Rifles conducted a joint operation, leading to the seizure of 195 cartons of high-value foreign cigarettes intended for illegal distribution across the region.
The seized contraband, with an estimated value of approximately Rs.1.95 crores in the international market, has been officially handed over to the Customs Department for detailed investigation and initiation of legal proceedings under relevant laws.
This decisive action highlights the Assam Rifles’ commitment to combating smuggling and protecting India’s borders from the influx of illegal goods. The operation also reflects ongoing efforts to maintain security, vigilance, and law enforcement cooperation in sensitive areas like Tripura, which remain vulnerable to such illegal activities.
