In a significant move to boost sustainable agriculture, the Tripura government is placing special emphasis on organic farming in tribal-dominated regions, as stated by State Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath. Speaking on Saturday during a visit to the Tuibangma Organic Producer Company Limited in the North Bodhjungnagar area of the Lefunga Agri Subdivision, the Minister formally handed over the company’s operational license.
The event was also attended by Runiyel Debbarma, Executive Member of the Public Works Department (PWD) under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC). With this license, Tuibangma FPC (Farmer Producer Company) can now engage in the sale, import, and export of organic produce, thereby creating new market avenues for local farmers.
Currently, pineapple cultivation is being carried out organically on 2 hectares of land in the region. In a further boost to modern agriculture, a live demonstration of drone technology in farming was also conducted during the event.
Minister Ratan Lal Nath revealed that organic farming is now practiced over 120 hectares (approximately 720 kani) of land in the area, involving nearly 500 farmers. He emphasized that there were no FPCs in Tripura before the BJP government and that the state now proudly hosts 40 registered FPCs, empowering local farmers and encouraging organic, eco-friendly agricultural methods.
He further stated that the government is committed to transforming tribal areas into hubs for organic cultivation, leveraging technology and cooperative farming models to uplift rural livelihoods. Speaking to the media, the Minister expressed confidence in Tripura becoming a model state for organic farming in the Northeast.
