Rangacherra, a small village in the West Tripura district, within the Mohanpur R.D. Block, is embarking on a transformative journey to become Tripura’s first fully solar-powered village. This initiative marks a significant step towards sustainable energy and rural development in the region.
Tripura’s Power Minister, Ratan Lal Nath, accompanied by senior officials from the Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency (TREDA), recently conducted an inspection visit to the village. During the visit, Minister Nath announced that the project will ensure that the village’s 600 families are primarily reliant on solar energy to meet their daily power needs. He also assured that the traditional grid power provided by the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited will remain available as a backup.
Rangacherra’s transition to solar power represents a remarkable turnaround for a village that once faced challenges with ian rregular electricity supply. This project is not just about providing power; it’s about creating a model for sustainable living and climate resilience. The installation of a solar grid, made possible through collaborative efforts and government support, will guarantee a consistent and reliable electricity supply for every household in Rangacherra.
The project includes several key components:
- 80 KWp Grid-connected Solar Photovoltaic (SPV) Power Plant: This plant will generate electricity and feed it into the grid.
- 12 Watt LED Street Lighting System: Energy-efficient lighting for public spaces.
- Solar-powered Community Water Purification System: Providing clean drinking water.
- Biogas Plants: Promoting clean cooking fuel and organic waste management.
- 600 Solar Home Lighting Systems: Individual systems for each household.
This holistic approach will not only address the village’s energy needs but also improve overall living standards and promote environmental sustainability. The initiative aligns with broader national goals, such as the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, which encourages the adoption of rooftop solar panels across the state.
Rangacherra’s transformation from a village struggling with unreliable electricity to a beacon of solar energy is a testament to the power of community engagement and government support. This project sets a precedent for other villages in Tripura and beyond, demonstrating the viability and benefits of transitioning to renewable energy sources.
