Two drug peddlers were apprehended by Assam police in Cachar district on April 29 morning, with a significant amount of narcotics in their possession. Superintendent of Police of Cachar district, Numal Mahatta, stated that acting on reliable information, the police launched an operation in the early hours and intercepted a vehicle near the Silchar Bye Pass area. The vehicle, bearing registration number AS-11FC-7989, was found to contain two individuals, Hussain Ahmed Laskar (35 years old) and Jainul Hussain Laskar (39 years old), along with 114 grams of heroin and 20,000 Yaba tablets. The total value of the seized drugs was estimated to be around Rs 6.7 crore.
Further investigation into the matter is ongoing, with the use of Drug Detection Kits confirming the presence of heroin and amphetamines in the seized substances. Preliminary findings suggest that the drugs were illegally transported from a neighboring state.
This incident follows a similar seizure by the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police on April 19, where 2.70 lakh Yaba tablets and 520 grams of heroin worth Rs 71 crore were confiscated in Kamrup district. Dr Partha Sarathi Mahanta, Chief of the STF, explained that intelligence led to the interception of a vehicle with registration number AS-01DA-9276 in the Amingaon area, where 40 packets of heroin were found hidden in secret compartments. The driver, Nazrul Hussain alias Ali Hussain (22), was arrested, and the street value of the seized heroin was calculated to be approximately Rs 4 crore.
These recent drug seizures highlight the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat the illegal drug trade in Assam and the surrounding regions. Authorities continue to work diligently to identify and apprehend individuals involved in the trafficking of narcotics, in order to maintain the safety and security of the community.
