Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha took a stand against the pressing social issues of drug abuse and child marriage at Gandhigram Higher Secondary School in Agartala on Thursday. The initiative, which drew a large audience of students, parents, teachers, and community members, aimed to raise awareness and protect the state’s youth from these harmful practices.
Dr. Saha highlighted the growing threat of drug addiction, particularly among adolescents, and stressed the importance of educating young people about the dangers of drug abuse. He called on parents and teachers to be vigilant and proactive in preventing drug use among children.
Child marriage was also a key focus of the campaign, with Dr. Saha denouncing it as a “deep-rooted social evil” that hinders the progress of society. He emphasized that child marriage deprives children, especially girls, of their right to education, health, and a dignified future.
The event at Gandhigram Higher Secondary School included interactive sessions, expert talks, and distribution of educational materials to raise awareness and facilitate discussions on these issues. Dr. Saha emphasized the need for community involvement, sustained educational outreach, and strict enforcement of laws to combat drug abuse and child marriage effectively.
The Chief Minister’s campaign is part of the state government’s ongoing efforts to protect the rights and well-being of children and adolescents in Tripura. Dr. Saha concluded by calling for unity and collective action to build a healthier, safer, and more progressive society in the state.
