Agartala police made a significant drug bust on the evening of August 24 at Agartala Railway Station, resulting in the arrest of two men from Bihar. The suspects, identified as Sonu Kumar and Suman Kumar Gupta, were found in possession of 8.45 kilograms of ganja with an estimated value of Rs 1.7 lakh on the black market. The duo, both residents of Naya Tola, Tingachiya, Kathihar district in Bihar, were allegedly transporting the drugs to their home state.
A case has been registered against the accused under sections 20(b)(ii)(B)/29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and they are currently undergoing interrogation by authorities. This incident is part of a series of successful anti-drug operations in the state of Tripura.
In a previous operation on August 1, the Border Security Force (BSF) and Jatrapur Police collaborated to seize 14,000 Yaba tablets near the Salpokhar area close to the border. The drugs, valued at Rs 1.4 crore, were discovered in a house and a red Chevrolet Aveo LS car.
During the operation, three suspects were apprehended: Sarfraj Ahmed from Meerut, Jubair from Moradabad, and Nazrul Islam from Cooch Behar. The individuals are believed to be involved in the illicit drug trade and are currently under investigation by authorities. These recent arrests highlight the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region and protect communities from the harmful effects of narcotics.
