Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha announced the success of the ‘Lakhpati Didi’ initiative during the National Workshop on Integrated Farming Clusters (IFC) for North Eastern States at Hotel Polo Tower, Agartala. The initiative aimed to empower women through self-help groups and integrated farming models, with nearly 95 per cent of the targeted women in the state achieving the milestone.
Saha revealed that out of the 1.14 lakh women targeted under the initiative, 1,08,281 have become Lakhpati Didis. He emphasized the importance of agriculture as the backbone of the economy and rural households, highlighting the role of the IFC approach under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana–National Rural Livelihood Mission in strengthening women’s livelihoods through diversified and intensified farming practices.
The Integrated Farming Cluster (IFC) approach, conceptualized under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana National Rural Livelihood Mission by the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India, aims to increase incomes of rural households through integration and synergy. In Tripura, activities for 80 Integrated Farming Clusters (IFCs) have already been launched with an investment of Rs 32 crore.
Saha mentioned that there are about 4.85 lakh women members in 54,113 self-help groups, along with 2,470 village organizations and 173 cluster-level federations in Tripura. The government has facilitated Rs 1,677 crore in bank loans, along with Rs 787 crore as revolving fund and community investment fund support to strengthen livelihoods.
The Chief Minister expressed pride in the progress made in Tripura, stating that the state is moving forward with the mission at full speed. He attributed the success to the determination of women, government support, and community solidarity. Women in Tripura are now actively involved in various activities such as piggery, pottery, poultry, fisheries, entrepreneurship, micro-enterprises, group-based ventures, catering services, and agro-ecological practices, making rural Tripura vibrant and self-reliant.
Saha also highlighted the government’s focus on infrastructure, connectivity, and livelihood generation in the North-East region. He mentioned that Tripura has undertaken several groundbreaking initiatives over the last seven years that are changing the socio-economic landscape of the state. The Chief Minister concluded by reiterating the government’s commitment to empowering women and creating a self-reliant North-East region.
