The National Medical Commission (NMC) has sanctioned an additional 50 MBBS seats for Tripura Medical College (TMC) and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Memorial Teaching Hospital in Agartala, as announced by Chief Minister Manik Saha. This decision has increased the total intake capacity at TMC from 100 to 150 seats, contributing to a cumulative total of 450 MBBS seats in the state.
Chief Minister Saha took to social media to express his delight at this development, stating that it signifies a significant advancement in Tripura’s efforts to expand medical education and enhance healthcare accessibility. He also highlighted the government’s consistent focus on healthcare development, noting that over the past three years, Tripura has secured an additional 225 MBBS seats, showcasing steady progress in strengthening medical infrastructure.
Saha expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda for their continuous support in improving Tripura’s healthcare sector. He described this achievement as a notable milestone in the state’s ongoing mission to enhance medical education and provide better healthcare services to the people of Tripura.
