The Centre’s commitment to showcasing Tripura’s cultural and spiritual heritage on a global scale was reiterated by Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region, Jyotiraditya Scindia, during a review meeting held on Wednesday, November 12. Scindia expressed the government’s dedication to unlocking Tripura’s vast potential and highlighting its rich cultural and spiritual legacy to the world.
In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to elevate every state into a global tourism destination, Scindia emphasized the goal of positioning Tripura as a vibrant hub for cultural, spiritual, and eco-tourism. Drawing inspiration from successful tourism models in other parts of India, such as Lakshadweep, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and Kevadia in Gujarat, Scindia urged officials to adopt global best practices in developing the Matabari Tourism Circuit in Tripura.
During the meeting, detailed presentations were made on various initiatives aimed at transforming the state’s tourism landscape. Discussions focused on enhancing international connectivity through Agartala airport, revitalizing key tourist attractions like Neer Mahal, Tepania, Jampui Pura, and Udaipur, and developing the Dumbur islands through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model to attract private investment and foster sustainable growth.
Furthermore, Scindia stressed the importance of integrating civic conservation, architectural development, and capacity-building initiatives across seven key verticals. This includes initiatives such as training local tourist guides and allied services to enhance employment opportunities and skill development within Tripura’s tourism industry.
Tripura Chief Minister, Manik Saha, also participated in the review meeting alongside senior officials from the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region and the state government. The collaborative efforts of both the Centre and the state government aim to showcase Tripura’s cultural and spiritual heritage to a global audience while boosting tourism and economic growth in the region.
