Tripura, a small state in northeastern India, has been making waves in the global organic farming community with its innovative and sustainable practices. At the recent Middle East Natural & Organic Products Expo (MENOPE) in Dubai, the state showcased its success in producing high-quality organic crops that are free from harmful chemicals.
Led by Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath, Tripura’s delegation at the expo highlighted the state’s commitment to promoting health benefits through organic farming and expanding its reach in international markets. With over 26,400 hectares of certified organic farmland cultivated by 26,800 farmers, Tripura has emerged as a leading example of sustainable agriculture in India.
One of the state’s most acclaimed products is the GI-tagged Queen Pineapple, known for its natural sweetness and high nutritional value. Additionally, Tripura’s aromatic rice varieties like Kalikhasa and Harinarayan, Bird’s Eye Chilli, Gandharaj Lemon, White Sesame, and Foxtail Millet have garnered attention from buyers and investors worldwide.
Minister Nath emphasized the importance of forming organic farmers’ producer companies to help streamline the process of marketing organic products globally. He stated that Tripura’s organic farming initiative has not only transformed rural communities but also has immense export potential in the international market.
Buyers and industry representatives at the expo were particularly impressed by Tripura’s black rice with high antioxidant content, organic ginger, turmeric, and foxtail millet. These products have seen a growing demand in regions like Europe, the Middle East, Japan, and Southeast Asia.
Minister Nath also highlighted the state’s efforts to promote non-traditional exports such as agarwood, agar oil, and bamboo shoots, showcasing Tripura’s commitment to integrating traditional resources into modern markets. He extended an invitation to global buyers and investors to participate in the Organic Buyer–Seller Meet scheduled in Tripura in January 2026, aiming to strengthen trade links and investments in the state’s expanding organic sector.
Overall, Tripura’s participation at the Dubai expo has not only raised awareness about the benefits of organic farming but has also positioned the state as a key player in the global organic market. With its focus on sustainability, health, and quality, Tripura is poised to become a major hub for organic produce in the years to come.
