News Report:
The Tripura State Committee of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) organised a rally in Agartala today demanding the immediate withdrawal of the Central Government’s labour codes, which they described as anti-worker and detrimental to the rights of labourers.
Participants marched through key streets of the capital, raising slogans against the new labour laws and calling for the protection of job security, fair wages, and workers’ social welfare. CITU leaders asserted that the labour codes dilute long-standing labour rights, weaken collective bargaining, and impose greater precarity on the working class.
Addressing the gathering, union representatives emphasised that the codes favour corporate interests over worker protections and urged the government to reinstate earlier labour safeguards. They reiterated their commitment to continue statewide and nationwide movements until the demands of the working class are met.
The rally concluded peacefully, with leaders submitting a memorandum outlining their objections to the authorities.
