AGARTALA: Activists of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal have announced a field enforcement drive to monitor cattle transport and prevent cow slaughter. Taking an active stance ahead of the upcoming festive season, the West Tripura district units of the VHP and Bajrang Dal jointly submitted a formal memorandum-cum-deputation to the Superintendent of Police (SP) of West Tripura district today.
The organizational delegation met with the district police chief to explicitly demand a comprehensive and watertight monitoring mechanism to ensure that no cows or cattle are illegally slaughtered on the day of Eid.
Demands Enforced for Communal Harmony and Legal Compliance
During their interaction with the district police administration, the leadership of both organizations highlighted the legal frameworks governing animal transport and preservation, urging the authorities to step up vigilance at sensitive transit hubs.
Key Issues Outlined in the Deputation:
- Preventing Illegal Transit: Setting up dedicated round-the-clock police checkpoints at state borders and major sub-divisional highway intersections to intercept the unauthorized or commercial transportation of cattle without valid veterinary clearances.
- Vigilance in Sensitive Pockets: Deploying additional police patrolling units in mixed-population neighborhoods and designated market squares to maintain strict law and order and head off any potential communal friction during the celebrations.
- Strict Penalty Measures: Demanding immediate penal action under active animal cruelty and preservation laws against any individual or local management committee found participating in public cattle slaughter or the illegal handling of livestock.
“We Call on the Administration for Absolute Vigilance”: Bajrang Dal Leadership
Briefing media representatives right outside the office of the Superintendent of Police following the submission, the senior organizational executives made it clear that they expect the law enforcement machinery to act proactively.
”Our delegation met with the Superintendent of Police today with a very clear, transparent, and non-negotiable demand: there must be an absolute and strict restriction on the slaughter of cows and cattle across the district for the upcoming Eid festival. The cow holds a deeply sacred, spiritual, and emotional place in our heritage, and its protection is paramount.
We have urged the police department to immediately issue explicit instructions to all local police stations and outpost in-charges to step up highway patrolling and keep a sharp eye on illegal transport tracks. While we have full faith that the police administration will handle this with the utmost seriousness to ensure peace, our Bajrang Dal volunteers will also remain highly vigilant on the ground to assist the system and report any illegal acts immediately,” a senior representative of the Bajrang Dal West Tripura unit informed journalists.
The Superintendent of Police reportedly listened to the issues raised by the joint delegation and assured them that the district police administration is committed to maintaining absolute law and order, preventing illegal activities, and keeping the peace across all sub-divisions of West Tripura.
