Agartala, Tripura: The 133rd birth anniversary of Mao Zedong, one of the most influential revolutionary leaders of the 20th century, was observed with due respect by the Communist Party of India (Marxist).
On this occasion, a brief commemorative programme was held at the CPI(M) state headquarters in Agartala on Monday morning. Leader of the Opposition Jiten Choudhury, along with senior leaders of CPI and CPI(M), paid floral tributes to the portrait of Mao Zedong.
Mao Zedong, born in 1893, was the founder of modern China, the principal leader of the Chinese Communist Party, and a prominent Marxist theoretician. Under his leadership, the People’s Republic of China was established in 1949, and he remained at the helm of the country until his death in 1976.
He led a peasant-based communist revolution and introduced major social and political transformations, including the Cultural Revolution, which had a lasting impact on Chinese society and played a significant role in shaping China as a major global power.
Speakers at the programme recalled Mao Zedong’s revolutionary ideology, his contribution to international communist movements, and his historical role in transforming China. The observance was conducted in a solemn and respectful atmosphere.
