AGARTALA: The Badharghat Assembly constituency was abuzz with philanthropic activities today as local residents and political leaders gathered to celebrate the birthday of their beloved MLA, Mina Rani Sarkar. To mark the occasion, a massive voluntary blood donation camp was organized in Ward No. 37 of the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), spearheaded by local Corporator Bapi Das.
A Legacy of Popularity: From Dilip Sarkar to Mina Rani
The political landscape of Badharghat has long been synonymous with the late Dilip Sarkar, a towering figure whose grassroots popularity remains unmatched. Following his demise, the seat saw a brief tenure by Mimi Majumder; however, in a strategic move during the 2023 Assembly elections, the BJP fielded Mina Rani Sarkar, the younger sister of the late Dilip Sarkar.
Commonly referred to as “Didi” by her constituents, Mina Rani has successfully carried forward the legacy of the “Sarkar House,” maintaining deep emotional and political ties with the people of Badharghat.
Inauguration by Mayor Dipak Majumder
The blood donation camp was formally inaugurated by the Hon’ble Mayor of Agartala and Ramnagar MLA, Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha’s close associate, Dipak Majumder.
Addressing the gathering, Mayor Majumder lauded the spirit of the Badharghat residents.
“Mina Rani Sarkar is not just an MLA; she is a sister to everyone in this constituency. Celebrating a birthday through blood donation is the highest form of service to humanity. I wish her a long and healthy life so she can continue to serve the people with the same dedication as her late brother,” the Mayor said.
Celebrations and Dignitaries
The event took on a festive note as the MLA cut a birthday cake amidst loud cheers and “Didi” slogans from party workers and local residents.
- Prominent Attendees: The camp saw the presence of Asim Bhattacharya, President of the BJP Sadar District (Urban) Committee, along with several AMC corporators and senior social activists.
- Youth Participation: Dozens of youth volunteers from the Badharghat area came forward to donate blood, responding to the call for addressing the state’s blood shortage.
MLA’s Message of Gratitude
Visibly emotional, MLA Mina Rani Sarkar thanked the organizers and the donors. “The love I receive from Badharghat is my greatest strength. My brother always taught me that the people come first. This blood donation camp is a tribute to his vision of a healthy and united society,” she stated.
The camp concluded in the afternoon, with local leaders noting that such initiatives further strengthen the bond between the elected representatives and the common citizens, keeping the “Sarkar family” tradition alive in the heart of Badharghat.
