AGARTALA: On the occasion of the 4th anniversary of the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), Mayor Shri Dipak Majumder raised a critical concern regarding the city’s water management. Speaking at a social welfare event organized in Ward No. 4, the Mayor attributed the difficulty in providing purified drinking water to every household to the “unnecessary and excessive wastage of water” by a section of city residents.
Call for Responsible Water Usage
The Mayor noted that while the state government and the AMC are working tirelessly to upgrade the urban water infrastructure, the habit of wasting treated water for non-essential purposes is creating a supply-demand gap.
“The government is committed to ensuring ‘Har Ghar Jal,’ but our efforts are often neutralized when people leave taps running or waste purified water unnecessarily. To ensure that every citizen in every lane of Agartala gets access to clean drinking water, we must adopt a culture of conservation,” Mayor Dipak Majumder stated.
Winter Cloth Distribution for the Underprivileged
The program, held at the initiative of Ward No. 4 Corporator Suparna Debnath, was part of a month-long series of social activities across all 51 wards to mark four years of the current AMC council. To support the vulnerable during the tail-end of the winter season, winter garments were distributed to over a hundred needy citizens of the locality.
Dignitaries Present
The event saw the presence of several prominent leaders, including:
- Dr. Dilip Das, Former MLA of Barjala Constituency.
- Smt. Suparna Debnath, Corporator of Ward No. 4.
- Other senior members of the local Ward Committee and social activists.
Former MLA Dr. Dilip Das lauded the AMC’s performance over the last four years, stating that the transformation of Agartala into a “Smart City” is visible through improved drainage, street lighting, and beautification projects. He urged the people to continue their cooperation with the municipal authorities to maintain the city’s progress.
Anniversary Celebrations Across Wards
It is pertinent to mention that the AMC, which was established under the current BJP-led council in 2021, has completed four years of governance. Each ward corporator has been tasked with organizing social service programs—ranging from health camps to cleanliness drives—to celebrate this milestone by reaching out to the grassroots.
The recipients of the winter clothing expressed their gratitude to the Corporator and the Mayor, noting that such initiatives provide much-needed relief to the elderly and the economically disadvantaged sections of the society.
