In a significant move toward transforming Tripura into a premier industrial hub in the Northeast, Honorable Chief Minister Prof (Dr.) Manik Saha officially released the landmark publication, “Strategic Approach to Industrial Development in Tripura,” today. The event took place at 12:00 NOON in the Conference Hall of the Tripura Institute of Fashion Technology (TIFT) at Syama Prasad Mukherjee Lane, Agartala.
A Vision for Economic Transformation
The publication launch marks a milestone in the state’s economic planning, providing a comprehensive blueprint for attracting investment and enhancing local manufacturing. Addressing a gathering of industrialists, academics, and department officials, CM Dr. Manik Saha emphasized that the state is no longer just a “gateway” but a “destination” for business.
”Our government is committed to creating a ‘pro-business’ ecosystem. This strategic document is not just a book; it is a commitment to our youth that the future of industry lies right here in Tripura. From logistics to food processing and textiles, we are mapping out every sector for maximum growth,” the Chief Minister stated.
Key Highlights of the Strategic Approach
The publication outlines several core pillars intended to drive the state’s economy forward:
- Infrastructure Connectivity: Leveraging the Agartala-Akhaura rail link and the Maitri Setu to access regional markets.
- Resource-Based Industry: Focusing on value addition for local rubber, bamboo, and agarwood.
- Ease of Doing Business: Streamlining digital clearances for new entrepreneurs and MSMEs.
- Skill Development: Collaborating with institutes like TIFT to ensure a ready workforce for the garment and design industries.
The Venue: TIFT’s Growing Role
The choice of the TIFT Conference Hall for this release was highly symbolic. As an institute dedicated to fashion and technology, it represents the modern, skilled Tripura that the “Strategic Approach” seeks to build. The Chief Minister lauded the institute for its contribution to vocational excellence and encouraged students to become “job creators rather than job seekers.”
Dignitaries in Attendance
The program saw the presence of several high-ranking officials and industry stakeholders:
- Senior officials from the Department of Industries and Commerce.
- Representatives from the Tripura Industrial Development Corporation (TIDC).
- Leading entrepreneurs and faculty members of TIFT.
The event concluded with a brief interactive session where the Chief Minister discussed the potential of IT and tourism as auxiliary industries that will benefit from this new industrial strategy.
