AGARTALA: A major controversy has erupted within the state’s sporting circles as the All Tripura Olympic Association (ATOA) and the Wushu Association of Tripura moved the police today against an allegedly unauthorized sports delegation. A formal complaint has been lodged at the East Agartala Police Station against Rakesh Das, accusing him of leading a team to Chhattisgarh without any official sanction or valid authorization from the governing bodies.
A delegation from the associations met with senior officials at the East Agartala PS today to submit a deputation, demanding immediate legal action and the recall of the unauthorized team.
Allegations of “Illegal” Team Selection
The Olympic Association has expressed grave concern over the safety and official status of the athletes currently traveling under Rakesh Das’s leadership. According to the complainants, the team sent to Chhattisgarh for a purported national-level event was formed through an “illegal” process, bypassing the standard selection trials and administrative protocols of the recognized state association.
Key Points of the Complaint:
- Lack of Authorization: The Wushu Association of Tripura clarified that it has not sanctioned any team for travel to Chhattisgarh during this period.
- Unauthorized Leadership: Rakesh Das is accused of masquerading as an official representative of the state to facilitate the trip.
- Risk to Athletes: The ATOA highlighted that since the team is not officially recognized, the participating athletes will not be eligible for government benefits, certificates, or insurance coverage in case of mishaps.
Demands for Administrative Action
The delegation emphasized that such “private” teams traveling under the banner of the state bring disrepute to Tripura’s sporting integrity. They urged the police to investigate the funding sources and the credentials under which the team was registered for the event in Chhattisgarh.
”We cannot allow individuals to take the name of the state and lead young athletes into unauthorized competitions. There is a specific protocol for selecting a state team, and Rakesh Das has completely bypassed the Wushu Association of Tripura. We have requested the East Agartala Police to intervene immediately and prevent this team from representing Tripura in any official capacity,” a representative of the All Tripura Olympic Association stated.
Police Investigation Underway
The East Agartala Police have accepted the deputation and registered a preliminary inquiry into the matter. Officials stated that they would verify the documents provided by the Olympic Association and may contact the host organizers in Chhattisgarh to clarify the status of the Tripura contingent.
This development follows recent internal friction within the Wushu coaching community, with established associations calling for stricter “Verification Certificates” for all coaches traveling out of the state with minors.
