UDAIPUR: Senior Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader and spokesperson Kunal Ghosh appeared before the Udaipur District and Sessions Court in Gomati District today. His visit drew significant attention from local political circles and the media, as it pertains to a legal battle stemming from his political activities in the state a few years ago.
The court granted him bail in connection with a case registered against him at the Radhakishorepur Police Station.
The Case Background: 2021 Political Remarks
The legal trouble for Kunal Ghosh dates back to 2021, during the height of the TMC’s campaign in Tripura ahead of the assembly elections.
- The Allegation: A case was filed by a local individual following a public rally held by the TMC in Agartala. It was alleged that Ghosh made certain provocative remarks that hurt religious sentiments or were intended to create social discord.
- Police Action: Based on the complaint, the Radhakishorepur police registered a case under relevant sections of the IPC (including 295A and 298, relating to wounding religious feelings).
- Ongoing Proceedings: While several other cases were filed against him in Nutan Bazar, Khowai, and Ompi during the same period, today’s appearance was specifically for the matter under the Udaipur jurisdiction.
Court Proceedings and Bail
Kunal Ghosh arrived at the Udaipur court today to comply with the legal summons. After hearing the arguments from both the defense and the prosecution, the District and Sessions Judge granted him bail, providing a major relief to the leader.
Speaking to the media outside the court, Ghosh appeared composed and reiterated his trust in the judicial system. He characterized the cases as “politically motivated,” designed to stall the TMC’s organizational growth in Tripura.

Outside the courtroom, Ghosh addressed the waiting journalists, emphasizing that he would continue to visit the state for both legal and organizational matters.
”The cases filed in 2021 are nothing but an attempt to harass political opponents. I have full faith in the law of the land, which is why I am here today. We will fight these battles legally and continue to stand by the people of Tripura,” Kunal Ghosh remarked.
Political Context
The appearance of Kunal Ghosh comes at a time when the political atmosphere in Tripura remains charged. With various local and national elections on the horizon, the TMC has been trying to revitalize its base in the state. Leaders from the state TMC unit were present at the court to show solidarity with Ghosh.
The case will now proceed to the next stage of the trial, with the court setting a future date for further hearings.
