AGARTALA: In a major administrative push to reform the state’s energy sector before the peak monsoon season, Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha chaired a high-level review meeting of the Power Department today. Held at the conference hall of the Tripura Institute of Technology (TIT) in Agartala, the meeting was co-led by Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath and attended by the top brass of the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL).
The executive session focused on audit reports of ongoing developmental projects, future scaling roadmaps, structural challenges, and systemic upgrades required to establish an uninterrupted power grid across urban and rural Tripura.
Strategic Focus Areas of the Meeting
The comprehensive review spanned multiple hours, evaluating the physical and financial progress of several central and state-sponsored electrification schemes.
- Grid Modernization: Detailed evaluations on upgrading aging sub-stations, transformers, and replacing fragile transmission lines to withstand extreme weather anomalies.
- Ensuring Uninterrupted Supply: Formulating a dedicated operational blueprint to minimize load-shedding and transmission losses, especially in remote tribal hamlets and sub-divisional towns.
- Consumer-Centric Services: Speeding up the roll-out of smart prepaid meters and resolving pending billing disputes through digitized consumer helpline cells.
“No Compromise on Consumer Service”: CM Dr. Manik Saha
Addressing the administrative heads, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha emphasized that a robust power infrastructure is the backbone of the state’s industrial and domestic growth.
”Providing quality, uninterrupted power supply to every citizen of Tripura is a top priority of our government. While we have made significant strides, we must aggressively identify and fix the lingering infrastructural bottlenecks. TSECL and the Power Department must work with absolute synchronization to ensure that the common man faces zero harassment regarding power cuts or erratic billing,” Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha stated.
Reviewing Financial and Technical Challenges
Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath provided a comprehensive brief on the financial health and technical upgrades being undertaken by TSECL. The Minister highlighted the necessity of strict monitoring to curb illegal power hooking and pilferage, which heavily impact state revenue.
Senior officials, including the Power Secretary, Managing Director of TSECL, and chief engineers, presented detailed project-wise data. The leadership directed ground-level engineers to complete all pending pre-monsoon maintenance work—such as tree-trimming near high-tension wires and transformer oil checks—on a war footing to prevent mass blackouts during the upcoming stormy season.
