AGARTALA: Launching a sharp, multi-pronged counter-offensive ahead of the ruling establishment’s promotional milestones, the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) has announced a massive, week-long statewide agitation starting today. Addressing the media during a crucial press conference hosted at the Congress Bhavan on Sunday, State Congress Spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty presented a scathing report card on the central administration as it approaches the completion of 12 years in office on May 26.
Flanked by senior department heads, Chakraborty characterized the over-a-decade tenure of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led BJP government as a “dark phase” marked by rampant corruption, structural economic failures, and systemic compromises affecting the nation’s youth.
A Nationwide Crisis: Congress Outlines Key Failures
During the detailed press meet, the Congress leadership asserted that the core fabric of the nation is currently under an institutional assault, with the financial burden of bad policymaking systematically shifted onto the shoulders of ordinary Indian citizens.
Major Issues Highlighted by the Opposition Desk:
- The NEET-UG Examination Fiasco: Calling the latest cancellation of national professional entrance tests due to widespread question paper leaks a “monumental educational betrayal,” Congress alleged that central regulatory bodies like the NTA have completely shattered the morale of millions of hardworking students.
- Crippling Fuel and Retail Inflation: Pointing out the recent consecutive hikes in petrol, diesel, and household cooking gas prices, the party noted that daily wage earners and middle-class households are struggling to survive as secondary retail prices shoot up.
- Economic Decline and Job Scarcity: Congress alleged that major central policies—from the legacy damage of demonetization to structural flaws in the GST regime—have continuously bled small-scale manufacturing units, resulting in historic levels of youth unemployment.
“An Incompetent and Corrupt Regime”: Prabir Chakraborty
Pulling no punches, Spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty stated that the current administration has built a flashy external showcase to hide deep internal governance failures.
”On May 26, the BJP will spend crores of public money celebrating 12 years of governance. But what exactly are they celebrating? Are they celebrating the fact that our educated youth cannot find jobs, or that an ordinary family cannot buy basic groceries due to fuel price shocks? Look at the sheer scale of educational corruption—recurring leaks in elite examinations like NEET-UG have turned the merit system into a commodity for the rich.
This is an absolute failure of public trust. They have money to waive off corporate debts, but when it comes to the common citizen, they levy heavy taxes. This is a highly corrupt and incompetent administration. The Congress party will not let this propaganda go unchallenged. From May 25 to May 31, our workers will take over the streets, organizing public sabhas and market campaigns across every single subdivision of Tripura to expose the reality of this regime,” Congress Spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty briefed reporters.
Broad Frontal Mobilization Finalized
The press meet underscored a unified push by the party’s sub-organizations to expand the reach of the upcoming civil protests into marginalized rural blocks and industrial clusters.
The conference was attended by OBC Department Chairman Manoranjan Debnath, Sadar District President Tanmoy Roy, and Unorganized Workers’ Congress Chairman Shantanu Pal, among other key organizational leaders. The leaders jointly declared that the Unorganized Workers’ wing will focus its block-level micro-rallies on daily wage earners and transport workers, who are bearing the immediate brunt of the diesel price surge.
