AGARTALA: In a major push to accelerate financial inclusion and expand credit access across the state, the State Level Bankers’ Committee (SLBC) successfully hosted a mega Credit Outreach Program today. The high-profile financial conclave was held at the auditorium of Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala.
The convention was graced by M. Nagaraju, IAS, Secretary of the Department of Financial Services (DFS), Ministry of Finance, Government of India, who flew into the capital to anchor the centralized credit disbursement evaluation.
The landmark event commenced with the auspicious lighting of the traditional lamp by the Union Secretary, flanked by a galaxy of top-tier administrative executives and banking captains. The dignitaries on the dais included Tripura Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha, Principal Secretary of Finance Prashant Kumar Goyal, West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar, and the Managing Director of the State Bank of India (SBI), alongside other prominent institutional heads.
A Standardized Platform for Accelerated Credit Sanctions
The Credit Outreach Program serves as a centralized processing window engineered to fast-track financial assistance directly to retail borrowers, micro-enterprises, and priority sector beneficiaries.
Key Institutional Targets Addressed at the Conclave:
- Direct Benefit Credit Transfer: Handing over formal loan sanction letters to hundreds of pre-screened local beneficiaries across various central and state credit-linked subsidy schemes.
- MSME and Start-up Capital Boost: Reviewing credit lines earmarked for young entrepreneurs, self-help groups (SHGs), and small-scale agro-industries to lower borrowing barriers in rural markets.
- Strengthening Financial Inclusivity: Directing regional banking heads to scale up financial literacy camps and stabilize insurance penetration under the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana.
“Banking Systems Must Reach the Last Mile of Tripura”: Union Secretary M. Nagaraju
Addressing the massive assembly of local entrepreneurs, cooperative representatives, and senior banking professionals, Union Secretary M. Nagaraju stressed that financial institutions must evolve past rigid corporate frameworks to serve as real growth engines for emerging rural markets.
”A credit outreach program of this scale is not a routine administrative exercise; it is a direct mechanism to place economic power into the hands of the citizens. Credit availability is the lifeblood of rural self-reliance. Our prime objective at the Ministry of Finance is to bridge the credit delivery gap between national banking frameworks and the industrious youth of the northeastern states.
Tripura holds incredible potential in handicrafts, organic agriculture, and small-scale manufacturing. The banking community—led by institutional pillars like SBI—must look beyond traditional collateral models to extend proactive credit support to micro-units. When we fund a local self-help group or a start-up today, we are effectively establishing a permanent employment hub for tomorrow. The administrative machinery here, led by the Chief Secretary and District Magistrates, is providing excellent ground integration, and we expect banks to keep this sanction pipeline moving transparently,” Union Financial Services Secretary M. Nagaraju stated during his address.
The day-long financial outreach concluded with the senior panel of dignitaries interacting with local small-business operators and handing over high-value commercial vehicle and machinery loan approvals, followed by a formal commitment from the SLBC to hold similar decentralized sub-divisional credit camps across the coming quarter.
