AGARTALA: In a major push to accelerate urban development and upgrade the state’s energy infrastructure, Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha chaired two back-to-back, high-level administrative review meetings on Sunday. The core discussions focused on the implementation milestones of Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) 2.0 and a comprehensive modernization blueprint for the state’s power sector.
The high-profile strategy sessions were hosted in the main Conference Hall of the State Guest House in Agartala, drawing top-tier national administrators and state cabinet executives to finalize immediate infrastructure investments.
The critical power sector review was graced by Union Minister for Power and Housing & Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal, who arrived in the capital on an official state visit. He was joined on the review panel by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and Tripura Power and Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath, alongside senior secretaries from both central and state directorates.
Evaluating Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0 Goals
The first leg of the executive meet was dedicated to assessing the progress of SBM 2.0 across all municipal councils and urban local bodies (ULBs) in Tripura, focusing on shifting from simple open-defecation-free statuses to complete urban garbage-free excellence.
Key Technical Parameters Evaluated by the Chief Minister:
- Solid Waste Management Infrastructure: Tracking the physical setup timelines for modern waste processing plants, bio-methanation units, and plastic waste recycling centers across major sub-divisions.
- Used Water Management: Reviewing the technical designs for upcoming Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) and Fecal Sludge Treatment Plants (FSTPs) to prevent the discharge of untreated domestic waste into regional river systems.
- Legacy Waste Remediation: Issuing strict, time-bound directives to municipal engineers to completely clear legacy dumpsites via automated bio-mining operations before monsoon disruptions begin.
Upgrading Power Infrastructure and Grid Resilience
The joint meeting with Union Minister Manohar Lal and State Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath focused on addressing regional transmission bottlenecks, reducing aggregate technical and commercial (AT&C) losses, and ensuring uninterrupted power supply across Tripura’s rural and hilly terrains.
| Focus Area | Key Technical Decisions | Targeted Outcome |
|---|---|---|
| Grid Modernization | Acceleration of the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) across all eight districts. | Replacement of old overhead cables with aerial bunched cables to minimize transmission failures during storms. |
| Smart Metering | Fast-tracking the physical installation of consumer-end smart prepaid electric meters. | Eradication of manual billing discrepancies and enhancement of revenue collection efficiency. |
| Renewable Integration | Scaling up solar micro-grid penetration across remote tribal hamlets under the PM-JANMAN initiative. | Clean energy security for off-grid communities without expensive transmission line expansions. |
“Central Capital Flow Will Fully Back Tripura’s Infrastructure Goals”: Union Minister Manohar Lal
Addressing the media pool at the State Guest House complex following the comprehensive evaluations, Union Minister Manohar Lal assured that the Ministry of Power and Urban Development will extend absolute fiscal and technical support to the state.
”The Government of India is fully committed to transforming the infrastructure landscape of the Northeastern states. Our review today with Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath has been highly productive. We systematically analyzed the operational bottlenecks in both urban sanitation modules and power distribution networks.
Under the RDSS and SBM 2.0 allocations, the central government will ensure an unhindered flow of capital funds to Tripura. We want to ensure that Agartala evolves into a top-tier clean smart city, while the state’s power corporation transforms into a highly efficient, surplus energy grid capable of delivering stable, fluctuation-free electricity to every household and industrial unit,” Union Minister Manohar Lal announced to reporters.
“Synergy Between Government Departments is Critical”: CM Dr. Manik Saha
Expressing gratitude to the Union Minister for the central government’s proactive handholding, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha stated that local executing agencies must maintain high accountability standards.
”Having Union Minister Manohar Lal Ji join our review meetings highlights the center’s dedication to Tripura’s growth. We have laid down clear, uncompromising instructions for our state officials. Whether it is achieving total garbage-free status under Swachh Bharat 2.0 or stabilizing rural power voltages under Minister Ratan Lal Nath’s department, deadlines must be respected.
Our double-engine governance framework is focused entirely on citizen comfort, and we will not tolerate administrative delays in executing these life-changing public utility projects,” Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha asserted.
The dual review sessions wrapped up with the state power corporation (TSECL) and urban development teams presenting detailed visual timelines for project executions, promising to submit monthly progress sheets directly to the Chief Minister’s Secretariat for real-time monitoring.
