AGARTALA: To evaluate institutional alertness and reinforce inter-agency coordination ahead of the peak monsoon season, the Sadar Sub-Divisional Administration organized a comprehensive, large-scale Mock Drill on Disaster Management today.
The simulated tactical exercise commenced at 3:30 PM inside the historical Umakanta Academy Premises in the heart of Agartala city.
The high-stakes drill was orchestrated under the direct supervision of senior administrative officials from the West Tripura District. It witnessed the active mobilization of multiple emergency response wings, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Tripura Fire and Emergency Services, state police personnel, civil defense volunteers, and medical trauma teams from nearby state hospitals.
Simulating Real-Time Crisis and Rescue Operations
The mock drill was carefully structured to mimic a sudden, high-intensity earthquake scenario followed by structural collapses and localized fire outbreaks—vulnerabilities that are highly relevant to Tripura’s geographical positioning in seismic zone V.
Key Operations Executed During the Simulated Drill:
- Rapid Evacuation Protocols: Testing the school administration’s ability to safely evacuate hundreds of simulated student actors out of multi-story buildings within a strict, minimal turnaround time.
- High-Rise Extrication: NDRF and Fire Service personnel demonstrated advanced rope-rescue techniques, safely lowering individuals caught on top floors using aerial ladders and specialized vertical pulleys.
- Confined Space Search: Utilizing sophisticated concrete-cutting machinery and sensor tools to locate and extract victims trapped under simulated heavy debris slabs.
- On-Spot Triage and Medical Evacuation: Setting up a temporary field hospital desk on the school grounds where medical officers administered immediate first aid, stabilized critical trauma patients, and managed real-time ambulance routing.
“Preparedness is Our Strongest Shield Against Natural Hazards”: Sadar Administrative Officials
Briefing media personnel at the staging ground following the successful completion of the drill, senior administrative heads noted that the exercise was a crucial success in identifying operational gaps.
”Tripura’s geographic and tectonic layout means we must remain permanently prepared for structural and weather-related emergencies. A mock drill of this scale at an iconic, heavily populated educational institution like Umakanta Academy allows us to test the actual ground readiness of our rescue teams under intense pressure.
It isn’t just about seeing how fast an ambulance or a fire tender arrives; it is about assessing communication sync between the NDRF, state forces, and local volunteers. Today’s execution was highly precise, and the response times were well within our target safety margins. We will continue hosting these localized exercises across commercial zones and administrative blocks to ensure that our disaster management machinery remains sharp, fast, and completely error-free,” a senior supervising official from the Sadar Sub-Divisional Administration stated to the press.
The principal and faculty members of Umakanta Academy highly appreciated the initiative, adding that exposing students to live emergency protocols is the most effective way to eliminate panic during a real-world crisis.
The event concluded with a detailed technical review meeting on the playground, where tactical commanders analyzed the day’s response metrics to further fine-tune the district’s central disaster mitigation blueprint.
