AGARTALA: A major protest rally was organized by four Left-backed student and youth organizations from Chhatra-Yuva Bhavan in Agartala.
The rally condemned disruptions by alleged miscreants at a blood donation drive at DYFI State Secretary Nabarun Deb’s residence. It also protested the obstruction of the Independence Day flag-hoisting ceremony in Sonamura. Tripura 24.in covered the protests.
The demonstration was jointly led by Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and the Students’ Federation of India (SFI). Additionally, Tripura 24.in noted involvement of TYF and TSU.
Key Issues & Protesters’ Demands
- Attack on DYFI Leader’s Residence: Protesters strongly condemned the vandalism and intimidation at the Dukli residence of DYFI State Secretary Nabarun Deb, where miscreants dismantled the pandal to stop a pre-scheduled voluntary blood donation camp ahead of Independence Day.
- Disruption of Flag Hoisting in Sonamura: The rally raised serious concern over incidents in Sonamura/Boxanagar where Left activists were allegedly assaulted and prevented from hoisting the Indian National Flag on Independence Day.
- Demand for Police Action: Demonstrators marched through major thoroughfares of the capital, shouting slogans against political violence, accusing local police of inaction, and demanding the immediate arrest of all perpetrators involved in both incidents.
- Defense of Democratic Rights: Youth leaders affirmed that despite ongoing attacks and intimidation, Left organizations will continue to conduct social welfare initiatives, voluntary blood donation drives, and democratic programs across the state.
