5 KHAYERPUR | AUGUST 23, 2026: Following incessant heavy rainfall and mountain runoffs, the flood situation in Tripura has worsened significantly. The water level of the Howrah River has crossed the danger mark, inundating extensive low-lying areas across the 5 Khayerpur constituency since early morning.
Rushing floodwaters have submerged residential localities, roads, and agricultural fields in Baldakhal, Ranirbazar, and the historic Chaudda Devtabari area.
Sudden Inundation Sparks Distress
According to local reports, the water level began rising rapidly around 4:00 AM today, quickly entering residential areas. In Baldakhal, key road networks and several houses are under water, severely disrupting normal life. Floodwaters have also inundated commercial zones in the Ranirbazar market area.
Distressed residents reported that the sudden swell gave them little time to prepare, forcing families to hastily evacuate cattle, grain stocks, and essential household items to higher ground. Concerns are growing among locals that continued rainfall could trigger wider flooding across the region.
Demands for Immediate Relief and Administrative Intervention
Affected families in the submerged pockets have appealed to the administration for prompt emergency assistance. Many displaced residents from Baldakhal and Ranirbazar have been forced to seek shelter on higher road embankments and temporary community spaces.
Locals have urged departmental ministers and district administration officials to visit the flood-affected zones, conduct immediate damage assessments, and ensure the swift distribution of relief material and drinking water.
The administration and local authorities are maintaining a close watch on the Howrah River’s water levels as the situation in the Khayerpur block remains critical.
