In a dramatic turn of events, tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated to new heights as both countries engage in retaliatory strikes against each other. Operation Sindoor, as it has been dubbed by Indian officials, has seen major cities in Pakistan, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Lahore, being pounded by Indian forces in response to repeated ceasefire violations.
According to sources, India used air-to-surface missiles and drones in the strikes, targeting three key military air bases in Pakistan as well as Pakistani posts in Sialkot and Narowal. The strikes resulted in significant losses for Pakistan, with reports indicating that major air assets were destroyed. However, the Pakistan Army has claimed that there were no casualties or material losses in the attack.
The situation further escalated when Pakistan launched a fresh drone strike at 26 locations in India, from Jammu and Kashmir to Gujarat. Indian air defense systems were able to thwart these attacks, but three people were injured in Punjab’s Ferozpur when debris from a Pakistani drone fell on a residential area.
This latest exchange of hostilities comes just days after Pakistan launched 300-400 drones at 36 locations across northern and western India, following Indian strikes against terror hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). In response, India launched precision strikes under Operation Sindoor at nine terror targets in Pakistan and PoK, following a terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 civilians.
As tensions continue to simmer between the two nuclear-armed neighbors, both countries have expressed a desire for de-escalation. It remains to be seen how the situation will unfold in the coming days, but the international community is closely monitoring the situation as fears of a full-blown conflict between India and Pakistan loom large.
