India is currently experiencing a surge in Covid-19 cases, with multiple states reporting new infections. Among these states, Bengaluru and Gurugram have recently seen an increase in active cases, sparking concerns among health authorities.
In Bengaluru, the capital of Karnataka, there are 80 active Covid cases as of May 26, 2025, with 73 of them concentrated in the city itself. Health Minister Dr Sharan Prakash Patil has emphasized the importance of remaining vigilant and following advisories issued to healthcare professionals. The Indian Medical Association (IMA) Karnataka branch has also issued control advisories in response to the rising cases.
Meanwhile, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has stated that the prevalent virus strain is not considered serious, but precautionary measures are still necessary to prevent further transmission.
In Maharashtra, the Kalyan-Dombivli civic body reported its first Covid-19 fatality, highlighting the virus’s impact beyond major cities like Mumbai. This has raised concerns about the preparedness of smaller urban areas to handle the pandemic. The Thane Municipal Corporation confirmed 36 Covid-19 cases, with one death reported in the city.
In Gurugram, Haryana, two new Covid cases have been detected, bringing the total number of cases in the city to six. Contact tracing and monitoring efforts are underway to prevent further spread of the virus.
Delhi has also seen an increase in active Covid cases, with a total of 104 cases currently reported. Despite this, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has reassured the public that the situation is under control and hospitals are prepared for any escalation.
Overall, health authorities are urging caution and adherence to safety protocols to curb the spread of the virus in the country. While the current situation is manageable, continued vigilance is necessary to prevent a further surge in Covid-19 cases.
