The National Health Mission has launched the ‘Stop Diarrhea Campaign-2025’ in Tripura to protect over 3 lakh children and bring down child mortality due to diarrhea to zero. The campaign, which began on June 16 and will continue until July 31, aims to raise awareness about the importance of hygiene and timely medical intervention in preventing diarrhea.
A high-level management and coordination meeting was held at the state secretariat to plan the implementation of the campaign. Key officials, including Tapan Kumar Das, Director of the Department of Social Welfare and Social Education, and Tapan Majumdar, Director of the Department of Health and Family Welfare, attended the meeting along with representatives from various other departments.
The theme of this year’s campaign is “Diarrhea can be prevented, cleanliness and ORS are your focus,” emphasizing the role of cleanliness and oral rehydration salts in preventing the disease. Under the initiative, Oral Rehydration Salts (ORS) and zinc tablets will be distributed to children under the age of five across all eight districts of Tripura.
A total of 3,04,062 children in Tripura are targeted under this campaign, with specific focus on aspirational districts, remote blocks, slum areas, flood-prone zones, and locations with a history of diarrhea outbreaks. Last year, 12,075 children in Tripura were affected by diarrhea, but all of them recovered successfully due to timely intervention and awareness efforts.
The state government has called for collaboration among all departments and stakeholders to ensure the success of the campaign and protect the health of children in Tripura. By prioritizing preventive measures and promoting awareness, the ‘Stop Diarrhea Campaign-2025’ is expected to make a significant impact in reducing child mortality due to diarrhea in the state.
