Tripura Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath has fired back at Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury over his recent comments, defending tall people and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Minister Nath demanded a public apology from Chaudhury for his remarks insulting tall individuals, including former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, and for labeling Sarma and the BJP as “cheaters.”
During a press conference, Minister Nath criticized Chaudhury for his comments implying that tall people are foolish. He also condemned the LoP for his derogatory remarks about the BJP and Tipra Motha, as well as his accusations against Assam Chief Minister Sarma. Nath urged Chaudhury to seek medical treatment, suggesting that his statements were motivated by frustration and depression.
The Minister highlighted the achievements of tall leaders in various fields, emphasizing that height has no bearing on intelligence or capability. He also challenged Chaudhury to a public debate on the development initiatives undertaken in Tripura over the past seven years, particularly during the tenures of former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb and current Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha.
Referring to Chaudhury’s controversial comments about Brahmins consuming beef, Minister Nath expressed shock at such divisive rhetoric coming from a senior political figure. He also defended Assam Chief Minister Sarma, praising his leadership and the progress witnessed in the state under his governance.
In conclusion, Minister Nath accused Chaudhury of attempting to mislead tribal and other communities with his inflammatory remarks and called for a more constructive and respectful dialogue in political discourse.
