AGARTALA: Unpaid for the past nine months and facing sudden job termination threats due to revised educational criteria, affected Anganwadi workers engaged through various non-governmental organizations (NGOs) placed a deputation to the Director of Social Welfare and Social Education Department on Wednesday.
Key Issues Highlighted by Protesters
- 9 Months of Unpaid Salaries: Workers recruited in 2024 through departmental NGOs to manage Anganwadi centers reported working continuously without receiving salaries for the last nine months, causing severe financial hardship.
- Sudden Change in Qualification Criteria: Speaking to media representatives, the delegation alleged that no specific educational qualifications were mandated when they were initially hired. However, authority figures are now using new qualification benchmarks to arbitrarily dismiss workers from service.
- Demand for Immediate Relief: The deputation demanded the immediate release of all pending salary dues and an instant halt to unlawful terminations, urging the department to safeguard the livelihoods of marginalized staff serving across Anganwadi centers
