The Leader of Opposition in the Tripura Assembly, Jitendra Chaudhury, has accused the BJP government of politicizing job fairs and recruitment drives in the state. Chaudhury, a CPI(M) legislator, criticized Chief Minister Manik Saha and the ruling party for using government recruitment as a political tool ahead of the polls.
Chaudhury’s comments came after Chief Minister Saha handed over appointment letters to 228 newly recruited teachers in the elementary education sector. The opposition leader called the event a political spectacle and questioned the transparency of the recruitment process. He raised concerns about the presence of top state leaders at such programs, suggesting that it was a way to gain political advantage and influence public opinion.
The CPI(M) leader refuted claims that appointment letters were distributed from party offices during the Left Front’s rule. He defended the recruitment process under their regime and criticized the current government for alleged favoritism towards candidates from outside Tripura. Chaudhury questioned how job aspirants from West Bengal and Assam were able to secure state government jobs if the recruitment process was truly transparent.
Highlighting the high number of vacancies in the state’s government sector, Chaudhury pointed out that youth organizations like the DYFI have identified over 20,000 vacancies in the Education Department alone. He claimed that there are a total of 51,000 vacancies in the government sector, a figure that was reportedly disclosed by ministers in the assembly.
The veteran Left leader called for a fair and transparent recruitment process to address Tripura’s rising unemployment crisis. He urged the government to conduct large-scale hiring drives to provide employment opportunities to the state’s youth.
