Tripura is on the brink of a significant development with the upcoming establishment of its first Auxiliary Production Centre (AAPC) for manufacturing artificial limbs. This initiative is being spearheaded by the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO), a public sector undertaking under the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
The AAPC will be located in Purba Laxmibill village of Sepahijala district, marking ALIMCO’s first foray into the Northeast region. With an investment of Rs. 45 crore, the center is poised to revolutionize assistive device manufacturing and service delivery in the area, particularly benefiting persons with disabilities and senior citizens.
The primary objective of this project is to enhance accessibility and provide essential services to individuals with disabilities in the region. By manufacturing artificial limbs and other assistive devices locally, the AAPC aims to bridge the gap in accessibility and empower those in need of such devices. Furthermore, this initiative is expected to create employment opportunities and contribute to the socio-economic development of the region.
The establishment of the AAPC in Tripura is part of a larger effort by ALIMCO to empower persons with disabilities across India. By expanding its reach to the Northeast region, ALIMCO is demonstrating its commitment to inclusivity and accessibility for all. This initiative is set to have a far-reaching impact, not only in Tripura but also in the broader context of disability rights and empowerment in the country.
